Easter at the beach or in the City

03.04.2017

The first wave of holiday-makers will soon be upon us. In the upcoming Easter holidays Cologne Bonn Airport is reckoning with some 560,000 passengers – that means 13 percent more than last year. So many passengers have never gone through Cologne/Bonn before in the spring holidays. “After the record-breaking year in 2016 and very positive figures in the first quarter of 2017 we are certainly looking forward to the holidays. The trend is still pointing towards growth – with a clear, two-digit plus,” was how Airport CEO Michael Garvens summed it up.

The Airport is expecting most passengers on Friday, the last school day before the holidays begin. Some 38,000 passengers are likely to pass through the Airport. Forecasts say that more than 100,000 passengers will be travelling via Cologne/Bonn on the first holiday weekend. The Easter weekend from Good Friday to Easter Monday will be the absolute peak with almost 130,000 passengers, and the return weekend will likely see more than 100,000 passengers.

In the Easter holidays the favourite destinations from Cologne Bonn Airport are around the Mediterranean: with Spain, Turkey (despite the downturn) and Italy leading the way. Top destinations are Palma de Mallorca, the Canary Islands and the Turkish cities Istanbul and Antalya. City-break tourists also head for London, Vienna and Milan. In the Eurowings low-cost long-haul sector the Dominican Republic, Thailand and Cuba take the lead.

To ensure you have a relaxed start to your holidays, you should allow more time than usual for checking in and going through the security controls. Information on the waiting times at the security control points is available at http://www.koeln-bonn-airport.de/fluege/abflug-ankunft.html.
