12.03.2015

Cologne Bonn Airport has been voted Best Regional Airport in Europe and second-best worldwide. Airport boss Michael Garvens was able to collect the coveted award at the renowned “Skytrax World Airport Awards” yesterday evening in Paris. In the category of Regional Airports, i.e. those airports that are not an intercontinental hub, Cologne/Bonn occupied first place already last year. Among all 550 airports that were rated worldwide, Cologne/Bonn came in at an outstanding 23rd place.

“A huge success,” says a delighted Michael Garvens. “This prize means a great deal to us, because it is based on the voting by passengers. We are mightily proud of this new accolade by our customers. We say thank you and promise to do everything possible to be even better.”

The World Airport Awards are the most respected awards in the airport industry. They are based on an annual global survey on customer satisfaction. More than 13 million passengers from 112 countries have cast their vote. Almost 40 service and performance criteria are rated, such as check-in, shopping, security controls or on-time performance.

“This award belongs to our employees, whose everyday performance was honored in this way by our customers,” adds Garvens.

Cologne Bonn Airport can also delight in an award in the cargo area. The magazine “Air Cargo World” carries out an annual survey among the cargo airlines and awards the “Air Cargo Excellence Award”. Like last year, Cologne/Bonn occupied 1st place in the category “European Airports between 400,000 and 999,000 metric tons. Criteria for the rating include customer service, quality of the handling and infrastructure.
